Dollars and Dreams: 5 Ways Having a Destination Wedding in Mexico and the Caribbean Can be Cheaper Than a Traditional Wedding”

Dollars and Dreams: 5 Ways Having a Destination Wedding in Mexico and the Caribbean Can be Cheaper Than a Traditional Wedding"

Love knows no bounds, but your wedding budget might. Does having a
destination wedding save you money over a local wedding? Let’s settle the
score once and for all as we explore the 5 reasons why a destination wedding in
the Caribbean or Mexico might have you saying “I DO!” in a tropical destination
that won’t break the bank!”

Cost-Effective Elegance: Yes, Sometimes Destination Weddings Can be Cheaper Than a Traditional Wedding — Read On

Are you wondering if hosting a destination wedding is cheaper than a local wedding? While many variables are involved in answering that question, hosting your wedding in the Caribbean or Mexico can be surprisingly cost-effective. You can enjoy a luxurious
wedding without breaking the bank with competitive wedding packages and all-inclusive options. Imagine saying your vows with the ocean as your backdrop, all within a budget that leaves room for an unforgettable honeymoon. Plus, there are many benefits you will receive for hosting a wedding group at a resort, making your budget go further, and even including some bells & whistles that would
never be included in having a traditional wedding – yay!

One-Day Celebration VS A Mini Vacation: Yes, Destination Weddings Can Save You Money When You Consider the Value — Read On

When planning a local wedding, there are the usual costs to pull everything together for a ONE-DAY event. With a destination wedding, for a similar or lower cost, you can transform your special day into a whole weekend of celebration, turning into a mini-vacation for you and your guests. From welcome parties to beachside brunches,
create a weekend wedding itinerary filled with unforgettable moments, making your wedding an experience to cherish.

Here is an example weekend wedding itinerary that many of my couples do:
· Thursday evening: All-white welcome party on the beach (where
everyone wears white – it is great for photos)
· Friday: Private catamaran cruise for your group (or other group
activity)
· Friday night: Themed rehearsal dinner for all guests (theme idea –
Mexican Fiesta)
· Saturday: Wedding, cocktail hour, dinner reception
· Sunday: Farewell brunch

Tailored Wedding Packages: Yes, You Can Get So Much More For Your Money With a Destination Wedding

Compared to a traditional wedding, you can usually find some great destination wedding packages at resort wedding venues in the Caribbean and Mexico that will make your wedding exceptional and save you money over a traditional wedding. These packages are inclusive, making planning more straightforward, and often include expert coordinators, ensuring every wedding detail is perfect. This allows you to focus on enjoying your special day. Whether you dream of a barefoot beach ceremony or a
garden celebration, a package suits your vision. Using a qualified destination wedding travel agent who knows the resorts and their packages can quickly help you know where to have your destination wedding and match you with the appropriate Cancun wedding packages, Jamaica wedding packages, Cabo wedding packages, or whichever destination is best for your wedding.

Simplify your Guestlist: Celebrating Your Wedding With Your Closest Family And Friends:

A big reason to host a destination wedding over a traditional one is to trim down your guest list to only those who matter most to you. It’s a natural process that keeps the “per person” cost of a traditional wedding down. Also, many wedding couples ask if they are supposed to pay for their guests to attend their destination wedding. The answer is no. Your guests are generally expected to pay their way to your destination wedding. This also means that you should be mindful in choosing a quality
destination wedding location that is financially doable for your guests.

Unforgettable Experiences for Guests You Just Can’t Get From A Traditional Wedding:

When you do a destination wedding, you can treat your guests to more than just anwedding – offer them a group experience they’ll never forget, like dune buggy riding, golfing, a catamaran cruise, snorkeling, visiting a volcano in St. Lucia, exploring the ancient ruins in Tulum or Chichen Itza, the Caribbean and Mexico provide a backdrop of unforgettable experiences. Now your wedding becomes a joyful celebration shared with loved ones, creating memories they will discuss for years to come.

Destination weddings often come with all-inclusive packages that can be more
budget-friendly than planning a traditional wedding with various vendors. Many resort wedding venues offer bundled services, including catering, decor, and even wedding coordination, helping you save on individual expenses while giving you and your guests a mini vacation you just can’t replicate with a traditional wedding. If you are currently trying to plan or figure out your destination wedding or aren’t sure if a destination wedding is right for you, schedule a free 30-minute destination wedding strategy session with me by clicking the link below. Remember, this isn’t just any vacation; this is your wedding, and It must be perfect!

The 100-mile coastline on the Yucatan Peninsula has several things to offer you – hiking, adrenaline-jumping activities, visiting ancient ruins, and a whole lot more! Visit Chichen Itza

Riviera Maya by Honeymoons & Vacations by Vonda

Listed as one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites, Chichen Itza is one of the most visited places in Riviera Maya, maybe even in the whole country! Be fascinated with the 1200-year old Mayan ruin complex. You may choose to stay in an all-inclusive hotel to fully experience this beautiful ancient treasure.

Relax in Tulum

Another sought after destination, Tulum boasts a 7-mile long coastline where you can lay back and sip your pina colada. You can revitalize your energy doing yoga at Sanara Hotel, where they offer yoga classes every day in a glass-walled yoga studio with a relaxing view of the beach. Visit also another ancient Mayan ruins located in Tulum, which could include a swim with the turtles.

Swim in the Cenotes

Another worthwhile activity to do in Riviera Maya is to swim in the Cenotes. Cenotes are beautiful and natural sinkholes and cave pools that formed due to a collapse of bedrocks and therefore brought fresh water to the surface. There are lifeforms underneath cenotes, and you will have to bring a snorkel to watch them. The water is cold and refreshing since the sun does not hit the water, perfect for a cooldown dip!

Wrap Up

These are only a few of the places and activities you can do in the tropical paradise of Riviera Maya. I’m sure there are a hundred more places you can discover and experience. Let us help you have a hassle-free vacation to Riviera Maya! Contact us for bookings and other inquiries.

El Dorado Seaside Suites

October 4, 2019 by Kavonda Rogers Leave a Comment

El Dorado Seaside Suites

I had the pleasure of spending a week at the El Dorado Seaside Suites in Cancun, Mexico.  I will start off by saying I am a resort snob.  Since, I have been to many resorts across Mexico and the Caribbean during my time as a Destination Wedding Planner my standards are high.  Yes, everything needs to be on point before I send my clients there.  I will let you know before we dive into the Pros and Cons that I have sent a lot of couples to the El Dorado Seaside Suites and I will be sending many more.  Let’s get started.

By Kavonda L. Rogers

The El Dorado Seaside Suites is a adults only resort located in the Riveria Maya section of Mexico.  Be aware that you will have about an hour and twenty-minute ride via shuttle from the Cancun airport to the resort.  That will be the worst part of your trip.  Once you arrive things definitely take an up-turn.

Check-in

El Dorado Seaside Suites by Honeymoons & Vacations by Vonda

When you arrive, you will be greeted at your car by a hotel employee dressed in brown and orange carrying a tray of lavender scented cool towels.  Take one!  You will need it.  When I arrived, it was a scorching 90 degrees and that towel was heaven.  Once your bags are taken and tagged to be delivered to your room you walk up the steps into the main lobby.  Once inside you will receive a welcome glass of white wine while you check in.  The check in process was relatively quick and took about 10-12 minutes.  Once I was all checked in, I went outside to be taken to my room.

The El Dorado Seaside Suites is not a walking resort.  The resort is huge and actually has two portions:  The Seaside and The Palms.  To help you navigate the resort there are golf carts that run continuously around the resort from 7am-11pm.

My Room

I stayed in an Infinity Swim Up room and if you stay at this resort this is the room you want.  The room has its own lounge area that leads into an infinity swim up pool right outside of your door.  Luckily the excitement doesn’t stop there.  You also have a rainfall shower and a jacuzzi bathtub.  I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the jacuzzi tub, but I did love the rainfall shower.  The room was amazing and has all the basics such as a circular chaise lounger a table for two and a king size bed.

The Food

I have eaten a lot of food during my travel days and the food at this resort is amazing.  Not only is it very well presented but it tastes good too.  I have been to Mexico a lot of times and every time I avoided guacamole.  Why?  I’m not an avocado fan.  Yet, after tasting the guacamole here at the El Dorado Seaside Suites I am a fan.  I still think I will only eat it in Mexico; just to be safe.

I also tried the breakfast buffet and found it to be very diverse.  It included pastries, freshly made to order omelets, and fruits.  Of course, there are several types of juices and even a mimosa bar for those who need a morning pick me up.  The buffet which is at the Marketplace gets crowded later in the morning so go early.   If you want to skip eating in one of the several restaurants on site, you can order room service with has a great menu and a decent delivery time.  Not to mention the food is good.

Activities

El Dorado Seaside Suites by Honeymoons & Vacations by Vonda

The El Dorado Seaside Suites has some great activities.  You can take a Pilates class, enjoy some Rock n Roll trivia and even my favorite activity which is the Mexican Fiesta held in the center of the resort on Wednesdays.  It is a party held outside with all the décor and a Mariachi band.  They serve all the Mexican faves such as tacos, burritos and empanadas.  I loved it! Don’t miss this party.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this is a great resort for a romantic getaway or a honeymoon.  It is also a great destination wedding location as well.  If you are looking for a touch of romance this resort is a great option.  I tried to find some negatives about this resort, but I just couldn’t.  Forbe’s was right in awarding it with one of the Most Romantic Resorts in the World.  I can’t wait for my next visit.

Are you considering a visit to Riveria Maya, Mexico?  Is the El Dorado Seaside Suites now on your list?  Let me know in the comments.

The Truth About Cruising

September 26, 2018 by Kavonda Rogers Leave a Comment

The Truth About Cruising

I am a self proclaimed travel addict.  This also makes me a cruise addict. (not by default just my opinion).  I have also created several cruise addicts. . i.e my mom, my fiance’ and my best friend.  Yet, I find the most myths and lack of information about cruising than any other form of travel.  There are many myths about all-inclusives as well but that is another post.  Let’s get started!

IMG_8636
By Kavonda L. Rogers

MYTH: There are only a handful of cruise lines.

I hear this statement quite often from people who have taken one or two cruises.  Why does it seem believable because many people base their information on advertisements.  If you only see advertisements for a small number of companies you may assume those are the only ones that exist.  Most advertisements you see are from main line cruise companies such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival or Holland America.  Yet, currently there are 25 major cruise lines. Virgin Cruise Lines (yep, just like the record company) will launch in 2020 making for 26 major cruise lines.  They fall into the following categories:

Mass Market (or Main Line)- These are the cruise lines most associated with cruising and usually the most affordable cruising options. Also, they have the largest ships to accommodate a large numbers of passengers. Main line cruises start at $399+ per person.  Examples are Carnival,Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Norwegian.

Premium– A step up from Mass Market and usually slightly smaller ships.  If you can call 2-3,000 passengers smaller.  Premium cruise lines focus on longer cruises (7+ days) and more exotic locations.  Premium cruises are more of an investment and start around $799 per person.  Examples are Princess, Disney, Celebrity, and MSC Cruises.

Luxury: Luxury cruise lines are just that.  They usually do not have ships with more than 1000 passengers.   They focus on exotic destinations and often have more overnight stays than the previous two categories.  Often times shore excursions and activities are included in the price.  Private butlers, free wifi are usually included.    Also, balconies, suites and penthouses are the norm instead of the exception. Luxury cruises start at around $2400 per person.  Examples are Crystal Cruises, Cunard, and  Azamara.

Ultra Luxury: Ultra Luxury takes the Luxury catagory and puts it on steroids.  The ships are smaller housing from 100-800 guests.  The locations are off the beaten path with some occasional big ship stops.  Everything is included from drinks to food to shore excursions.  Butlers and personal concierge are the norm as well as spa packages. These cruises often have themes such as wine cruises, or culinary delights.   This is the best cruising has to offer.  Also, if you live far from the port no worries Ultra Luxury cruises include business class plane tickets in the price.  Ultra Luxury cruises start at $8000 per person and can cost as much as $25,000 per person.  Examples are Silverseas and Paul Gaugin cruises.

Now that you know the cruise levels let’s explore other myths.

Myth: Cruises just go to the Caribbean

Yes, the majority of cruises go to the Caribbean around 50%, but the ocean cruising world is much bigger.  There are many cruises that go to other destinations.  For example their are Hawaiian and Alaskan cruises.  Not to mention all the European cruises (which also includes river cruises, but that’s another post).  More recently cruise lines are entering Central and South America with cruises going through the Panama Canal and to Rio De Janerio.  There is a cruise for everyone even veteran cruisers who want a bit more adventure with their cruise travel.

Myth: Been there done that!

Many people feel that once they go to a specific port then they should never go there again.  Many times the ports where cruise ships dock are not close to the hub of the island.  I have been to several locations where I really didn’t get a feel for the area until my 3rd or 4th visit.  If you are doing a repeat visit to an area definitely contact me and I can give you some ideas to have a better island experience.  There is always something else to see when you don’t live there.

Myth: All Inclusive Resorts are Better, Right?

I will admit that all inclusive resorts are amazing.  Especially, when you want to have time to dig deep and really immerse yourself in a particular destination.  Yet, as far as exploration of several locales in a short period of time cruising wins hands down.  The value of a cruise especially for 5 day plus cruises is exceptionally high.  My suggestion is to cruise to a destination to see if you like it.  If you like it and want to see more then go back and stay at an all-inclusive.

I’m so glad you took a moment to read the truth about cruising. I tried to touch on issues that I have personally heard from clients over the years.
