Best All-Inclusive Resorts in the Caribbean

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in the Caribbean

Beautiful beaches, amazing turquoise waters and great sunsets are a few of the reasons the word loves the Caribbean.  Another reason is the all inclusive resort was created here and continues to flourish.  Everyone loves to get some bang for their buck and the all-inclusive resort does just that.  Let’s explore some of the best in all-inclusive resorts that the Caribbean has to offer.

By Kavonda L. Rogers

Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa, St. Lucia

The “split personality” of St. Lucia’s Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa, as you might call it, makes it as much a draw for privacy-seeking singles and twosomes as it does for social friends and families. For the former, the adults-only Harmony wing has its own pool, hammocks for lounging, and an oceanfront spa called Kai Mer. The latter will want to book themselves into the Splash wing, which offers a water park and paintball court among other rowdier amenities. The beautiful mile-long white-sand beach out the door is open to all and is a particular favorite with St. Lucia’s kite-surfing crowd.

Hard Rock Hotel, Punta Cana

Best All-Inclusive Resorts by Honeymoons & Vacations by Vonda

If you like your resorts huge and never ending well this is the resort for you.  The Hard Rock Punta Cana has over 1000 rooms.  It also has a 45,000 sq foot casino so if you like to gamble this is the place.  This family friendly resort has an adult only side and a family friendly side.  So, if you are traveling with a group it is perfect. It is a true all-inclusive resort with it’s limitless all inclusive program.  This resort has it all: shopping, games, water sports, arcades, a bowling alley and night clubs.  There is no end to the activities.

Sandals Halycon Beach, St. Lucia

Sandals Halcyon Beach St. Lucia is located in Choc Bay, just outside the capital city of Castries, five minutes from George F.L. Charles Airport.   Sandals is known for its luxury and it’s all inclusive plan.  Sandals Halcyon Beach is made for lovers. Hidden inside the naturally beautiful landscape of Saint Lucia lies a secret garden filled with effervescent flowers, luscious palms and serene waters, where couples come to escape and fall in love all over again. This resort is a true beachfront resort with only 169 guestrooms.  This gives the resort a boutique feel with the perks of the Caribbean but the quietness of a deserted island.  This is perfect for those who like to unplug and recharge during their vacation.

Breathless Montego Bay, Jamaica

Best All-Inclusive Resorts by Honeymoons & Vacations by Vonda

If you like a little spice in your vacation, then this resort is the perfect destination. Breathless Montego Bay is a quick 15-minute ride from the airport and 10 minutes from the Hip Strip district of Montego Bay.  If you didn’t know this is where the parties happen.  Breathless also has the only rooftop pool bar in Montego Bay.  Each suite has its own balcony or terrace with whirlpool.  Oh, and I shouldn’t fail to mention that Breathless is topless optional.  Plus, you can also visit it’s sister resort Secrets St. James which is right next door.

Breezes Resort & Spa, Nassau, Bahamas

Right on Nassau’s Cable Beach, Breezes Resort & Spa makes for a far more affordable stay than flashy Baha Mar next door. Guest rooms are right on the sand and the all-inclusive rate applies to all five on-site restaurants as well as non-motorized water sports. (Heading out to explore the water with a paddle boat or kayak is a must during your stay.) The extra daily fee for renting one of the resort’s palapa-style beach cabanas is a bit of a bummer, but with the money you save staying here, you can probably afford some extra splurges.

Jade Mountain, St. Lucia

Best All-Inclusive Resorts by Honeymoons & Vacations by Vonda

Technically Jade Mountain isn’t an all-inclusive resort, but they od have the option of adding an all inclusive plan to your stay.  It’s worth it! Why because the design and views from Jade Mountain are amazing!  Jade Mountain is owned by architect Nick Troubetzkoy and it is obvious he put his heart and soul into the design.  Not to mention that Jade Mountain is the only resort in St. Lucia that has a direct view of the Pitons Mountains.  So, if luxury, amazing views, and unforgettable pampering are on your list of must haves then Jade Mountain is for you.

Divi Resort & Hotel ,Aruba

Divi Aruba is a south Caribbean family friendly resort.  If relaxation is your ideal vacation style, then this resort is for you.  It has lots of activities and entertainment, but it also has a great beach and other areas for relaxation.  The best part of Divi Aruba is that Aruba is below the Hurricane belt. So, if you need to travel during the latter part of the year this is the perfect place.

Now Larimar- Punta Cana, Dominican republic

The Now Larimar is not only a budget friendly but family friendly resort in Punta Cana.  The now Larimar is located on the beautiful Bavaro Beach and is only 30 minutes from the airport.  This is a large resort with lots of activities for the family.  Now Larimar has a bowling alley on site.  It also has a botanical garden that you will defiantly want to explore while you are there.  Also, don’t miss the chance to go out and explore the nearby towns of Santa Domingo and other Dominican villages.

Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton, Montego Bay, Jamaica

Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort & Spa is nestled between Montego Bay and Negril, Jamaica.  It is a family friendly resort, but it has an adult only area.  It also has Villa Suites which are for adults only as well.  Villa Suites have their own private entrance, jacuzzi tubs, and an outdoor shower.  The resort is filled with activities from tennis and volleyball to a water park for the kids.  At night you can enjoy one of the shows or get your groove n at the Boogie Woogie Disco (yes that’s the actual name).

Couples Swept Away, Negril Jamaica

Best All-Inclusive Resorts by Honeymoons & Vacations by Vonda

If you want a bit of romance and a chance to be active Couples Swept Away is the perfect option.  This resort is set on 19 acres on world-famous Seven Mile Beach. Couples is said to be the creator of the all- inclusive resort model.  With their small resort feel on a large property Couples Swept Away is the perfect way to enjoy Negril, Jamaica.  With 312 suites and a 10-acre sports and fitness complex (yes, 10 acres) it is a perfect destination for those who want to get away but not lose track of their fitness goals.

Top 10 Travel Destinations for Vegans and Vegetarians

September 20, 2019 by Kavonda Rogers Leave a Comment

10 Best Vegan & Vegetarian Travel Destinations

Let’s be real for a moment.  Travel can be a very overwhelming thing for any individual.  Things get especially wonky when you add in additional factors like small children, teenagers (they seem to never like anything) and job restrictions etc.  In the past year I have acquired a lot of new clients who are Vegan or Vegetarian. Due to this new type of traveler I have had to expand my knowledge of vegan and vegetarian travel destinations.   For the sake of complete transparency, I am not a vegan or vegetarian.  Yet, even if you aren’t one the chances of you traveling with someone who is, are very high. Actually, the chances are getting higher by the moment.   So, today I’m going to prepare you whether you are Vegan/Vegetarian or just have friends and family who are.  Also, make sure you stick around till the end where I will share with you an amazing tip on how to make your vegan and vegetarian travel super easy.  Let’s get started.

By Kavonda L. Rogers

Scotland

Our first stop on the world map is Scotland believe it or not.  Scotland is the friendliest place for vegans and vegetarians in the United Kingdom.  Common food options include Vietnamese salad, bean burritos and porcini risotto to name a few.  If you visit Scotland, make sure to visit the Flying Duck pub which is the most popular vegan pub in Scotland.

Singapore

If you have ever traveled to Singapore is well known for its vegan and vegetarian cuisine.  You will mostly find this type of cuisine at open market eateries and hawker markets.  Hawker markets are markets where you can haggle for your food and it is a lot of fun.  Since, Singapore has such a large South Indian population it has a lot of Indian food as well.  As you may or may not know a large portion of Indian cuisine is vegetarian or vegan based.  If you do get tired of Indian fare during your trip, then you can go to the Original Sin restaurant and enjoy some Mediterranean cuisine.  Mediterranean food, in case you didn’t known, also has a strong Vegetarian foundation.

Israel

Next, we hop on over to Israel and it’s called a Vegan paradise.  Nearly 1 in 20 residents in Israel consider themselves Vegan.  Israel is such a vegan paradise that their Domino’s Pizza chains have varieties of Vegan pizza on its menu.

Jamaica

I specialize in Caribbean travel, so I had to throw a few Caribbean locales in the mix.  The first one is Jamaica.  I know Jamaica does not seem on the surface to fit this category, but it does.  Jamaica is the homeplace of the Rastafarian community and they eat a plant-based diet.  So, all the Rasta eateries are a vegan and vegetarian refuge.  If you visit Jamaica be sure to stop in at Stush in the Bush which is an upscale Rasta eatery in Northern Jamaica.  I promise Chris & Lisa Binns, the owners, will make you feel right at home.

Bali

Vegan and Vegetarian by Honeymoons & Vacations by Vonda

Are you tired yet?  Don’t run out of steam yet we are off to Bali in French Polynesia.  This is another place where vegan cuisine is paramount.  Indonesian food is a combination of rice, tofu, noodles and plant-based curries.  With those bases there are vegan options for days.  If you are feeling a little adventurous the Beet Caviar Salad is worth a try.  Also, don’t forget to see a movie at the Paradiso.  The first and currently only vegan movie theater in the world.

Taiwan

Speaking of societies based around plant based living Taiwan is definitely one.  Since Taiwan has a large Taoist and Buddhist population many of its citizens live a plant-based life.  If you are looking for the vegan or vegetarian eateries look for the reverse swastikas on the outside of the restaurant doors.  Whenever you see the symbol it means the restaurant serves Taoist and Buddhist food.  If you are in the market district, make sure you seek out Shihn Night market has lots of Vegan and vegetarian eateries.

India

I briefly mentioned Indian food before when I spoke about Singapore.  So, I must include India on this list.  South India is considered the ancient birthplace of Vegetarianism.  Almost one half of South India’s population is Vegetarian.  The Vegetarian restaurants use Pure Veg labels on their doors and advertisements.  So, make sure you look for those signs.

Thailand

Thailand is the next stop on this list.  The Chiang Mai area of Thailand has over 80 Vegetarian restaurants.  Yes, 80!  The interesting thing is they are all known for their own special dish.  You can eat a different dish every day of your stay.  I would say that is a plan not a challenge.  Like Taiwan; Thailand has a large Buddhist population, so Vegan/Vegetarian food is plentiful.   Even the traditional Indian eateries have basic vegan options such as Tom Yum Soup and coconut milk curry dishes.

South Korea

We are almost at the end of our culinary journey and the next stop is South Korea.  Vegetarian foods are very common on Korean Menus.  Like other countries in this part of Asia there is a large Buddhist population and a plant-based diet is part of their worship.  When you are traveling through this part of the country you can ask about where temple food is served.  Temple food is the food eaten by Buddhist monks and is vegetarian or vegan based.

St. Lucia

Vegan and Vegetarian by Honeymoons & Vacations by Vonda

My last destination is one of my personal favorites and it’s in the Caribbean.  St. Lucia!  St. Lucia is super Vegan and Vegetarian friendly since so many varieties of plants and fruit trees grow easily there.  Most restaurants will even adjust popular St. Lucian meals to fit a Vegan or Vegetarian diet.  You just have to ask.

Oh, and let me not forget about the free tip to make your travel as a vegan or vegetarian super easy.   Go to google and type in I am a vegan or vegetarian and then the language of the country you are visiting.  You can print this out and attach it to an index card or card stock.  Next step is to either put it in a sandwich bag or get it laminated.  Now, that you have this card simply show it before ordering your food.  If there is anything in a dish you request that might not fit the bill you can be told.

5 Things to Know Before Planning a Cruise Wedding

September 13, 2019 by Kavonda Rogers Leave a Comment

5 Things to Know Before Planning a Cruise Wedding

Cruise weddings are very underrated, and I think it is a travesty!  With a cruise wedding there are so many options and so many destinations that are not always available when you consider a traditional wedding.  Not to mention cruise weddings are affordable and give you a lot of bang for your buck.  Let’s take a journey down the aisle to destination: cruise wedding!  I know it was cheesy, but I couldn’t resist.

By Kavonda L. Rogers

There are several things you should know before you start planning a cruise wedding.  In this blog post I will focus on the top five things.  This will give you a strong foundation if you decide this type of wedding is right for you.

Book Your Cruise First

You will need to have your cruise booked and deposited before you can start planning your cruise wedding.  The weddings department will not assist you unless you have a booked cruise.  So, handle that first. If you are overwhelmed by the cruise line options then contact a travel professional (like myself) and they can help you navigate those murky waters.

Know Your Guest List

In the world of a cruise wedding there are two types of guests: sailing and non-sailing.  Sailing guests are guests who will not only attend the wedding but will be sailing with you on the cruise.  Of course, non-sailing guests are guest who will attend your wedding but not be sailing on the cruise.  You are not limited in the amount of sailing guests you can invite but you are limited in the amount of non-sailing guests so keep track of who is on what list.

Be Prepared to Pay Upfront and In Full

Remember the part where I said keep track of your guests.  This is where that part comes into play.  Cruise wedding packages are based on guest count.  Each package includes a base number of guests and if you go over it you will have to pay an additional fee.  After you have chosen your wedding package and given your guest count you will be required to pay that amount in full.  Your wedding will not be booked if you do not pay the full balance.

Cruise Weddings are Quick and to the Point

If you want your wedding to have a lot of glitz and glam then a cruise wedding is not for you.  Cruise ship weddings are simple, elegant and QUICK! There is no playing around on the cruise ship.  Everything will start and stop on time.  There is no waiting for your cousin who is always late: they will miss your wedding.  Cruise weddings are great for the couple who wants to do something special but the glam and the glitz is really not necessary.

Types of Cruise Weddings

There are three types of cruise weddings.  Depending on the cruise line you chose they may have all three choices or just one choice.

  • Embarkation Wedding– This is the most popular cruise wedding choice. It is the most popular because non-sailing guests can attend this wedding type.  This wedding will take place the day the ship leaves the port (also known as embarkation) a few hours before the ship leaves.  The wedding party is allowed to board the ship early in order to prepare for the wedding.
  • Sea Day Wedding– This wedding will take place during the cruise on a day that the ship is not at a port (also called sea days). The wedding will take place on selected private areas of the ship.  For obvious reasons only sailing guests can attend this wedding type.
  • Port Weddings– This type of wedding will take place at a destination during the cruise, other wise known as a port. In this case the wedding will be handled by a local planner in that destination.  The wedding party will be allowed to exit the ship early to travel to the wedding location.

Why You Should Buy Travel Insurance; Every Time You Travel

August 30, 2019 by Kavonda Rogers Leave a Comment

Why You Should Buy Travel Insurance; Every Time You Travel

Once upon a time there was a woman who went on a trip to Cancun.  It was fun; it was fabulous, and she did things totally out of her comfort zone like booking a Catamaran boat ride.  Well, needless to say before the boat even left the dock, she had a sprained ankle.  Okay, stop the story!  Let’s have some full transparency here.  The woman was me.  Yep, I sprained my ankle on the boat before it left the dock.  So, here I am in Cancun with an extremely painful sprained ankle.  Yet, I had a saving grace tucked away in my bag.  Yes, my travel insurance information.  Boy, was I ever happy I wasn’t going to have a doctor bill when I left the resort because let’s be honest I already had enough pain.  So, today I am going to help you be like me and know the wonderful power of travel insurance.

By Kavonda L. Rogers

I know you are probably thinking “Listen Lady I don’t need another thing added to the cost of my trip!”  I completely understand your point of view but once you understand travel insurance and what it covers, I think you mind may change.  Let’s explore the wonderful benefits of a travel insurance policy.  I won’t be covering every benefit, but I will cover what is in most basic level policies.  By no means am I am insurance agent, but I am just sharing my knowledge.

You Need to Cancel Your Trip

This is the most common use of travel insurance.  This allows you to cancel your trip and receive at least 50% of what you have paid thus far back.  This is worth it’s weight in gold considering most travel brands have pretty strict cancellation policies that do not benefit the consumer.

Related: How to Apply for a Passport

Your Flight is Cancelled

When weather cancels your flight and you are unable to return to your home destination or get to your destination.  Having trip interruption will cover the flight change or get you a stay at a comfortable hotel until you can fly again.

Hurricane Damage at Your Destination

If you are a resident of the Southeast or Northeast coastlines in the United States this is a familiar part of life.  Yet, travel insurance will cover if the destination you are traveling to is being ravaged by a hurricane. You will be able to cancel, or reschedule your trip without hefty fees and penalties.

You Get Sick or Injured on Your Trip

If you get ill or get injured (sprained ankle pops to mind) during your trip your travel insurance will cover your medical expenses.  This is great since most medical insurance plans do not cover international medical services.

Your Bags are Lost or Delayed

There is nothing worse than getting to baggage claim and your bags are no where to be found.  If you have travel insurance, then you can call a 1-800 number and your bags will be located and returned to you.  If your bag can not be located the coverage will allow you to be reimbursed for new clothes, personal items and even a new suitcase to take your items home.

Cancel for Any Reason

This coverage is my favorite!  Why? Well like it says you can cancel for any reason and still get at least 50% of your travel costs refunded to you.  This not a part of a basic travel insurance package but can be an added waiver.  This is best for unexpected things that happen like you get denied for your passport.  Also, this option is not available in New York.

I hope you have learned some things in this crash course on travel insurance.  So, next time you book that great vacation add some travel insurance I am sure you won’t regret it.

Have you ever had any travel mishaps or injuries where you wish you would have had travel insurance?  If so, tell me about them in the comments below.

Tips for Choosing the Best Cruise Ship Room

August 23, 2019 by Kavonda Rogers Leave a Comment

Tips for Choosing the Best Cruise Ship Room

Have you ever started planning your cruise and clicked to choose your cruise ship room and instantly became overwhelmed?  Whether you are a first-time cruiser of even if you have a few cruises under your belt room choice can be a huge hurdle to overcome.  The average cruise line has anywhere between 20-30 room categories available.  Yikes, talk about overwhelm.

There are so many types, levels and even perks to cruise ship rooms it can be difficult to understand which room is best for you.  No worries travel addict I am here to help.  We will explore the types of room categories, and how to choose the best one for your next cruise.

By Kavonda L. Rogers

4 Basic Cabin Types

All cruise ship rooms include a private bathroom and basics such as televisions, phones, closets and lamps. After that things begin to change depending on cruise line and room category.

Interior Room

This is the lowest category and is simplistic and doesn’t have any windows.

Cruise Ship Room by Honeymoons by Vonda, cruise, cruising
Carnival Cruise Lines-Interior

Ocean View Room

The next category up is ocean view and this room has a bit more space than an interior.  It will also have a window or a port hole depending on the cruise line.

Cruise Ship Room by Honeymoons by Vonda
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines- Ocean View Room

Balcony Room

The balcony is usually a bit larger than the ocean view and has an actual balcony you can sit on and enjoy the view.

Cruise Ship Room by Honeymoons by Vonda, cruise questions
Celebrity Cruise Line- Infinity Verandah (Balcony)

Suite Room

Suites are the largest rooms available.  They are also the most varied.  They can include private bedrooms, two bathrooms, butler service, and upstairs lofts.  The options at suite level are endless.

Princess Cruise Lines- Suite

Related: 10 First Time Cruise Questions

Other Factors to Consider

  • How do you view your room?  Is it just a place to rest, sleep and change clothes?  If so an interior or ocean view may work for you.
  • On the other hand, if your room is the center of your cruise experience and you see it as your private sanctuary then you may want a balcony or a suite.
  •   Maybe you have a fear of heights but still want to see the scenery? Then an Oceanview may be the perfect fit for you.
  • Also, think about cruise length.  If you are going on a short cruise you may want to chose a lower priced room because you really may not fully enjoy a balcony.

Where are you travelling to?

Alaska Cruise by Honeymoons by Vonda
Celebrity Cruise Line- Alaska

This becomes a huge factor when going on scenic cruises such as Alaska, Hawaii or Mediterranean cruises.  These cruises are all about the view and a balcony will cost more but be worth it because of the view.

Location, Location, Location

There are things to think about before clicking that number for your room choice.  I call these location factors.

  • Are you concerned about noise?  Then you will want to avoid floors above or below the theaters, restaurants and pool.  The best choice may be a room at the end of the hallway.
  • Worried about motion sickness?  Then choose a cruise ship room on a low deck (3 or below) and is in the middle of the ship.  You won’t feel the boat’s movement as much at this level.
  • Do you have mobility issues? You definitely want to choose a room close to the elevators.  Remember to book early because those rooms go fast.

Learn Your Views

Lastly, in order to choose the best cruise ship room, you need to know about views.  There are two types of basic views when it comes to cruise ships.

Obstructed view- This means the window or balcony’s view is blocked by something.  In most cases it will be a wall, a life boat or part of another room.

Deck views- This means that instead of the view being of an area outside of the ship you will see an area inside the ship.  These views are usually of the pool deck, the atrium or other areas in the center of the ship.

I hope you are completely prepared for choosing your best cruise ship room.   Share with me in the comments when is your next cruise vacation.

10 Best Honeymoon Destinations

August 16, 2019 by Kavonda Rogers Leave a Comment

10 Best Honeymoon Destinations

About to embark on a honeymoon journey? Need some help finding the best honeymoon destination?  Sure, you do?  Planning a wedding is stressful enough and then adding a honeymoon to it takes the stress factor over the moon.  No worries I will share with you some budget friendly destination as well as luxury bucket list destinations.  I’m sure there will be something on the list that fits your needs.  Let’s get started!

IMG_8636
By Kavonda L. Rogers

Jamaica

Jamaica is the home of reggae music and a honeymoon in this wonderful island will not disappoint.  Jamaica is known for its beautiful beaches, amazing local cuisine (jerk chicken!) and waterfalls.  While you are in Jamaica make sure you climb the Dunn River Falls, bobsled in Ochos Rios, and cliff dive at Rick’s Café.  It you aren’t feeling adventurous you can relax on Seven Mile Beach in Negril or listen to a reggae band in Montego Bay.

Cancun/Riviera Maya, Mexico

Best Honeymoon Destinations by Honeymoons by Vonda, honeymoon, honeymoons

This is my favorite part of Mexico because the resorts in this area are just amazing.  Cancun and Riviera Maya are on the northern side of the Yucatan Peninsula.  This area is one of the most popular vacation spots in the world.  While you are in this area make sure you take a chance to snorkel or scuba dive in the wonderfully calm waters, visit the Mayan Ruins, swim in a cenote and gorge on some of the best guacamole I have ever had!

Fiji

Fiji is a bucket list destination and it is also a luxury one.  Fiji is comprised of 300 islands which accounts for it’s amazing shorelines.  While you are in Fiji consider going diving and seeing the unique sea life native to the area.  Also, learn about pearl harvesting and harvest a pearl for yourself.  If you are into surfing Fiji has great waves you can ride so don’t forget your wet suit.

Florida Keys

If you are seeking a honeymoon option that doesn’t require a passport; then the Florida Keys is an amazing option.  The southern tip of Florida is full of activities and options for honeymooners.  While in the Florida Keys take a ride in a glass bottom boat and taste authentic key lime pie.  If you are feeling really willing to take a chance, then go see the crocodiles in the Everglades (but make sure you have a guide).

Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic has over 500,000 hotel rooms and it is why it is considered one of the hottest vacation spots in the world.  If you are an adventure traveler this is the perfect destination with its many adventure activities.  Make sure you do a water horseback ride and zipline through the tropical forests.  If you decide to visit during the months of Carnivale you will get two vacations in one with the amazing sights and sounds of this celebration festival.

St. Lucia

Vegan and Vegetarian by Honeymoons & Vacations by Vonda

St. Lucia is a gorgeous island that is nestled around the Pitons Mountains.  It is a luxury honeymoon destination but well worth the cost.  While in St. Lucia visit the Castries Market (make sure you are hungry when you go) and taste all the foods and look at all the handmade goods.  If you want a holistic experience, then take a mud bath at Sulfur Springs and before you leave take a helicopter ride over the Pitons Mountains.

Maldives

The Maldives is the perfect example of a tropical destination.  The Maldives is another bucket list destination.  The Maldives consists of 1000 islands.  This area is known for its awe-inspiring beaches which pictures don’t do justice.  Over-water bungalows began in the Maldives and are one of the most desired locations in the islands.  While there don’t forget to explore the coral reefs whether via boat or diving.

Maui, Hawaii

Maui is the second most visited island in Hawaii.  It is, in my opinion, the most romantic of the islands.  You can relax on the beach and have some lazy days while in Maui but that is not the only thing to do in Maui.  You can drive the Road to Hana which is a 65-mile road with some of the world’s most amazing scenery.  If you are into beer, then visit the Maui Brewing Company and take a tasting tour.  Also, do not forget to visit the Honolua Bay and snorkel with the wildlife.

This is the only other destination on the list that US citizens can visit without a passport.  If you do not have a passport this is the best honeymoon destination for you.  Puerto Rico is an amazing island in the Caribbean.  If you are a history buff, make sure to visit Old San Juan which is full of history and culture.  The walking tour of Old San Juan is completely worth it.  Take a kayak ride through Mosquito Bay and as the name implies bring some bug repellent.  Also, make sure to taste some of the delicious street food peppered all over the island.

Bali, Indonesia

Best Honeymoon Destinations by Honeymoons by Vonda, Honeymoon, honeymoons

You may already know that Bali is a bucket list destination.  Bali is the most popular destination in Indonesia and considered by many to be the best honeymoon destination ever.  While in Bali make sure you visit the many active volcanoes and the beautiful coral reefs.  You may also want to make your own jewelry at the many of the jewelry compounds or visit the rice fields.  Bali is a perfect location for Vegans and Vegetarians since most of the diet of Indonesians is plant based.

5 Things to Know Before Setting Your Destination Wedding Budget

5 Things to Know Before Setting Your Destination Wedding Budget

I get it you have googled until your fingers are sore and you are still no closer to starting your destination wedding planning.  Every answer you think you have simply leads to another question.  You want to set your destination wedding budget but have no idea where to begin.  Have no fear frazzled bride or groom the Destination Wedding Diva is here.  (I know it was corny, but I couldn’t resist.)  I am going to share with you the 5 Things to Know Before Setting Your Destination Wedding Budget.

By Kavonda L. Rogers

Narrow Down Your Destination Options

Seems simple right? This seems like a crazy step, but it is a necessary one. I have asked past clients what their choices were for their destination wedding and they tell me Mexico and the Maldives and all points in-between (meaning Jamaica, Hawaii, Aruba etc.).  The problem with these choices is that yes, they are tropical beach locations but that is where the similarity ends.  Aruba, Hawaii and the Maldives are all considered luxury locations while Mexico and Jamaica are more budget friendly.  Narrow your destination down to 2 or 3 locations and be specific.  You want to choose cities or regions if possible.  This way you won’t be as overwhelmed by the options available.

All-Inclusive or Cruise?

Destination Wedding by Honeymoons by Vonda

Whenever I ask my clients this question, and I usually get that moment of “They have cruise weddings?”. Yes, they have cruise wedding but that is for another blog post.  Honestly, both options offer the same thing.  A simple and easy wedding/honeymoon format.  Traditionally, most destination weddings occur at an all-inclusive resort, but cruise weddings are on the rise.  Yet, the cruise option can be a bit more affordable if you are on a tight budget or you are having problems obtaining a passport.   With the number of cruises available it is an option worth considering.

How many guests will you invite?

Whether you chose a cruise wedding or an all-inclusive resort you will need to think about guests. Please note there are just certain people who will not travel (especially out of the country) to a wedding.  Don’t take this personal it’s just how the cookie crumbles.  As the bride and groom, you are not required to pay for their travel (flight/accommodations) but you are required to pay for their place in your wedding package.  This cost will need to be added to your destination wedding budget.  Wedding packages usually account for up to 20 guests.  After that you will need to pay an additional fee per guest.  These fees can range from $35-$125 per guest.

How much time can you afford to take off?

This is important because many marriage laws and resorts require a minimum stay in order to get married legally in their country. This can be a little as 2 days PRIOR to the wedding and as many as 3 days.  You want to avoid a country or a resort where the marriage laws will require you to exceed the amount of time you can take off from work.

Are you and your fiancé(e) able to obtain passports?

If you consider these times you will for certain be 5 steps closer to setting a destination wedding budget. Also, if you are seriously considering a destination wedding then make sure to check out the State Department’s website to ensure your wedding will be recognized by the United States government.
